Written on Our Hearts
On Mother’s day, when we celebrate the nurturing spirit of mothers, a unique message of love and legacy rings true. Just as mothers provide comfort and guidance, we are reminded of our spiritual responsibility to shape the minds and hearts of future generations through discipleship.
We have a profound influence over the younger generations in our lives. Discipleship, a calling for parents, grandparents, and community members alike, is the dynamic process of guiding others to follow Jesus, rooted deeply in love and daily living.
Moses’ instructions to the Israelites in Deuteronomy 6:4-9 offer a timeless blueprint: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength.” It's not a mere suggestion of ancient ritual, but a call to profound relational intimacy with God. At its core, discipleship involves writing the law of love upon the hearts of those we cherish, ensuring it transcends rituals to become a vibrant, living faith.
Practical discipleship starts at home; it's in everyday conversations, in shared experiences, and in quiet prayers together. Try utilizing technology to share scriptures with your family, engage in reading plans, and make faith discussions an integral part of family life. More than methodologies, it's about the authenticity of your love for God that speaks volumes to those watching
We have the privilege of setting a living example. Our actions, attitudes, and our responses to life’s challenges speak louder than words. Children learn by observing—when we reflect God’s love through our lives, it provides them with a genuine blueprint of faith.
Moreover, our words have power. Speaking scripture and hope into daily situations not only influences our children and grandchildren but also roots the legacy of faith deeper into their lives.
Let’s be intentional in our discipleship, recognizing that our influence matters. Beyond Sunday sermons and formal teaching, it's the transformation seen in lives dedicated to God that leaves a lasting impact. If love for God is at the forefront of our hearts, we naturally pass it down, ensuring this faith legacy endures for generations.
On this day, as we express our gratitude for the women who have nurtured us, may we also commit to nurturing the faith of those who look up to us. Let’s embrace the opportunity to pass on this vibrant legacy of love and discipleship.
