The Wright Man for the Right Time

The Wright Man for the Right Time

Ten years ago, at the time they came, he planned to stay 5 years, Lord willing, and then retire at NORMAL retirement age.  It was all part of his plan and he had planned well.  Nothing about their ministry here would be normal.  Immediately after coming to Balboa Baptist, the church voted on expanding into an additional Bible Study space, kitchen, and a large multi-purpose room – essentially doubling the square footage of the church and to take on a multi-million-dollar debt. At the time, the Village was not growing, and the average member's age was that of their parents. The vote to proceed? Less than overwhelming. Under normal circumstances, moving forward wouldn’t have made sense.

Yet, under his leadership and with God’s blessing, the church flourished. Even during COVID, God used the new building as a vaccination clinic, serving thousands in the Village. A Contemporary Service was introduced to complement the excellent Traditional Service, providing a meaningful worship experience for all. Over time, this second service, too, was blessed and thrived. In recent days, families with children and students have begun attending and joining—a remarkable sight in a "retirement village." This wasn’t normal, and it certainly wasn’t planned.

What started with a 5-year plan flourished into a 10-year ministry. Thank you, Dr. Denny Wright, for being the Wright man at just the Right time for Balboa Baptist Church.

A reception to honor Dr. Denny and Billie Sue Wright will be held on January 19th at 3 PM at Balboa Baptist Church. Please call the church at 501-922-0155 to make a reservation or RSVP online at balbobaptist.church/events/list.
