Thankfulness from an Unconventional Perspective

It’s truly remarkable to reflect on the depth of God’s love for us! Recently, I felt a surge of gratitude towards my Heavenly Father as I revisited Isaiah 5:20: “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness, who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.”

You may wonder, “How can this verse evoke gratitude in you?!” Upon reading it, I recognized my own culpability in the very actions it condemns. I found myself ensnared under the “woe” of God Almighty.

The term “woe” signifies being subject to divine judgment from God. That was indeed my state! I had blurred the lines between good and evil, finding myself under His judgment. Yet, in an overwhelming moment of realization, I understood that Jesus the Messiah had sacrificed Himself for my misguided thoughts and actions. Through repentance and faith, I accepted His forgiveness, proclaiming Him as the Lord and Savior of my life.

Salvation, a gift of God’s grace, is truly something to be thankful for! The sinful nature inherent in all humanity leads us to distort values—to deem evil as good, light as darkness, sweet as bitter, and vice versa.

The world around us is increasingly shrouded in darkness, with actions like sexual immorality being misnamed as freedom, the termination of unborn lives framed as a human right, and theft presented as reparations. Moreover, the rejection of God’s truth in favor of subjective beliefs is often celebrated as personal enlightenment.

I am grateful for God’s forgiveness—and you can be too! By placing your trust in Jesus Christ, acknowledging Him as God’s Son who died for your sins and rose again, you too can embrace His forgiveness and experience eternal salvation. In this tumultuous and confusing world, the ultimate source of gratitude is the assurance of being forgiven and granted eternal life. This allows you to step into the true light of God’s truth as a disciple of Jesus Christ.

“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!” (2 Corinthians 9:15).
