Let Jesus be Your Light

Let Jesus be Your Light

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:4-5

Much has been written about light and darkness. Darkness is the absence of light. Darkness occurs when there is no light. Darkness is not a construct on its own, but is only manifest when there is no light. A small light is a beacon in the darkness. The light of God is not a small light but an overwhelming light that completely overcomes the darkness.

In our lives there are times of darkness. We try to overcome the darkness on our own. We are only capable of a tiny beacon of light. It does not last long, nor does it overcome the darkness. Our light only pushes the darkness aside for a time. Eventually, our light dims and the darkness rules again. I Peter 5:8 tells us, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” And he has been around much longer than we have. He has honed his game to snuff out your light.

We are not capable of doing any more than driving the darkness back for a time until our light burns out. Then the darkness returns and we are left to wander blindly in the darkness unaware of what is in front of us. Worry and fear overtakes a person wandering in the darkness to a point where the person stops moving or is driven to do something drastic.

With Jesus as our light, we have an everlasting light that is capable of winning an everlasting battle with the darkness. When our tiny light shines in vain to defeat the darkness, His light carries us through the darkness. . . if we let it.
Let Jesus be your light today and forever. He is the word and the light. He will guide your way. . . if you let Him.
