Maybe you were called out by a bully who wanted to meet you after school for a fight. Or you have were called out at a banquet to receive an award for an achievement. Or it could have been you were called out by your boss to lead a project. When my mom had dinner ready we were called out to wash up and come eat. When I have been wrong, I have been called out for my behavior by someone who really cared about me.
As we have all witnessed and probably experienced, pride often gets in the way of responding properly to being called out. Kind of like when mom told you to clean your room and you just shoved things under the bed half-heartedly.
What if you were called out by God Himself? What would you do? Would you run the other way like Jonah did who ended up in the belly of a fish? Would you point out all the imperfections of associating with other called out people and refuse to associate with them? Would you let pride get in the way of responding to being called out by the most important Person in the universe?
Many have written off the church as irrelevant. But the word church means called out. God calls out people to believe in His Son Jesus as Lord and Savior. Then we are called out to be part of a group or body of believers. That means we are called out to be an active part of a Bible believing church by God Himself.
Sure someone who was not acting like a Christian or was not even a Christian to begin with has hurt you. Is that an excuse not to obey being called out by God? Sure you can find fault with any group of believers, but does that make it ok not to respond to God’s calling out.
“Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other” (Romans 12:45 NLT). This is how you learn forgiveness, kindness, and love. This is the context you help others grow in Christ?
