During the Lord’s Supper in the Maundy Thursday service, I was blessed with a wonderful experience. As the trays with the cups were being passed to the congregation, I paused a moment to raise my head to the ceiling, with my eyes closed in pray. When I opened my eyes, I saw the reflection of the highly polished trays on the ceiling as each person withdrew a cup and passed the tray to the next person. As the reflection paused over one person for only a moment and then moved over the next person, it seemed to me as if the Light of the Lord paused over each person partaking of the sacrament.
When taken in as a whole, there were at least six trays being passed around. All six reflections were moving along the ceiling over the people in the congregation. With each reflection pausing and then moving along to the next person, it appeared to be a fantastically amazing dance of light. It was as if God were giving His blessing to each person. It was an amazingly beautiful moment.
Isaiah 60:1,2
“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the LORD rises upon you and his glory appears over you.”
The Light of the Lord is not intended to be kept and internalized by believers. It is intended to be shown to the world through our lives. It is intended to be shared with others in need of the Light of the Lord. It is intended to be a beacon in a dark world to guide people to the path that God has made for us.
Combining parts of Isaiah 60:1-2 and Matthew 5:16, Arise, shine, for the light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. "Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." Do not keep the grace and mercy that God has provided the believer. Share it with all who are in need of it.
